Power or Sail
Year round on-the-water transportation opens up the marketplace for the new boat buyer. My job is to assume all of the responsibility for getting your boat relocated. Except for a daily phone call to reassure you of the progress, you hardly need be concerned. Minor maintainence issues are all part of my job and the years of experience keeping things working properly is what you're paying for. Any repairs requiring outside assistance are discussed with the client first. Nobody likes surprises.
Since about 1994 (when I started keeping better records because of computers) I have logged over 125 coastal deliveries. I'm not sure of the number of trips prior to then but it's easily over 200 as my first was in the early 1970's. This makes for a huge number of bar crossing which is a science in itself. "Don't try this at home" as they say. It's been my experience that true professional delivery skippers don't even bother to count such things. It would be like counting how many times you've driven to work.
Sellers can include delivery costs in the selling price with confidence with flat rate quotes for most trips. This skipper available for across the marina or the length of the West Coast to Alaska. Before turning over your pride and joy you will certainly want to learn all About Your Skipper
All deliveries are approached professionally with the main goal being a trip that can only be described as uneventful. Our job is not to set records, create tall tales, or end up on the evening news.
With a few exceptions, pleasure boats, especially power vessels, are not built to endure the rigors of ocean travel unless conditions are moderate. Steel fishing boats are designed to handle abuse. Pleasure boats are all to often designed to handle sunshine and propane barbeques. This is especially true for planing or semi-planing hulls. So traveling the West Coast between California and Alaska has skipper imposed rules drawn from 39 years of experience on this route. Weather reports are the main defense. Patiently waiting in port for friendlier conditions is paramount to protecting the boat and crew. Prudent sail reduction, proper engine rpms, and systematic engine room checks create an enduring environment for a successful transport.
Fees are based on such considerations as: uphill or downhill, season, vessel speed. degree of difficulty, and location. Certainly not to be discounted is the skipper's desire to go places he's never been before.
Where do you start the process.....? Merely send me an e-mail telling me from where to where, approximate dates, type of boat, and I'll take it from there. If I don't get back to you immediately, it means I'm on a delivery so please be patient. I'm able to check my phone messages ( 425-330-9852) more often during a trip so you might leave me a number and the best time to reach you. |
Tracking by satellite is now available offering live position information via GOOGLE EARTH. This allows the owner to monitor the vessel's progress throughout the voyage.
Sea trial assistance when the prospective buyer either cannot be present or wants a professional unbiased opinion of the condition and performance of the vessel.
Vacation boat placement: Getting there is not necessarily half the fun when you only get 2 weeks a year. I place your boat in a desirable location so it's waiting for you when you arrive and then I go home. I arrive back on your last day of cruising, you fly home and I return the boat to your slip. Cruising in one direction or having your vessel returned home by this professional skipper enhances an all too short vacation time for the busy boater. This is our most popular service.
Skipper aboard: Taking this experienced skipper on cruises in unfamiliar waters is prudent, practical, safer, and a learning experience. This is a good way to take advantage of the Powerboat Training for docking and maneuvering which is included at no extra charge. Being at the helm for 8-10 hours a day can get old fast. I take most of this chore away which leaves the boat owner free to kick back and enjoy his family, friends, and surroundings. When preferred I can assume the role of an experienced pilot, guide, and consultant with the owner remaining as captain in charge. Low key, non-smoking, sociable. I suggest reserving this service the same day you choose your vacation time period.
